I really wanted to like those, but when I sat inside and turned around, I felt like I was in one of those forced-perspective houses. Like if my son was in the back, he’d appear 9' tall. It truly is a tapering tunnel and I don’t like being claustrophobic. I think I’m starting to understand one of the unspoken reasons people like crossovers -- because wagons are working so hard to differentiate themselves, they’re losing some function.

I do, too! MY2015 & 2016 T5 models can be had used in the low teens. How can you beat 240hp from a 2.0L 4 banger, the same amount of power as a mid '90's 855R, but with 8 gears and twice the fuel economy?

I think I see what you mean. That seemed to be the biggest knock on the Crosstour, the fact that the tapering rear took a lot of the wagon-like utility out of it.

I had no idea they would be that cheap.
I probably shouldn’t know that.

Wish I owned a Volvo.. . *sigh*

But you have an Amanti. Can’t be hogging all the treats.

I felt it even in the Volvo V90 wagon , which is a relative monster. And then I got into the XC90 and said “Yes! Just a foot lower to the ground, though.”
I’m one of those freaks (maybe not on Oppo) who feels safer closer to the ground, not sitting up high.

I don’t know about safe, but I sure hate having to climb into a car. I don’t like tall cars for that reason.

The missus is impressed with Volvo’s nobody dies in our cars after 2020 pledge. Seems like I’ll be getting a 2020+ V60 as her next ride.

Doubling down on a well known reputation is a good strategy.

I feel that way, to a degree, about having to “fall into” a car (sports cars excluded). I think a lot of crossovers have hit the sweet spot by placing the seat bottom right at the average person’s hip. YMMV...you’re in a chair, right
? That would change my entire comment in favor of lower cars, for sure.

I guess used car prices are rising again since new car sales have slowed. The lowest on AutoTrader is $13.9k. If you’re ok with the S60, the lowest is under $12k.
...I blame Doug.

That’s probably a good first car.

I miss your morbid alphabet posts.
Not sure why red Volvo wagon make me think of that

I hate hate hate the sharply rising beltlines on these era Volvos. You can easily apply that to other manufacturers, but to me it stuck out with Volvo because they were otherwise great looking vehicles. I think an early 2000's V40 was the last “sedan with a fat but” Volvo wagon

Almost forgot, the S80 had this engine in the last 2 model year (15-16), 37 mpg hwy, and runs on regular 87 octane gas.

Oh thanks! I wondered briefly if I should do it again this year, but people said it made them kinda depressed.
